Hyderabad, Oct 8: AICC president Sonia Gandhi’s son-in-law Robert
Vadra on Monday deleted his Facebook account after he received
unprecedented criticism from netizens over his remarks unwittingly
comparing India to a banana republic.
“Mango people in a banana republic,” Robert Vadra said in a post on
the social networking site, Facebook, ostensibly to criticise anti
corruption activist Arvind Kejriwal. However, the post backfired as
Vadra, though not intentionally, sought to compare India to a banana
republic. Kejriwal had earlier accused Vadra of receiving favours from
DLF in the form of interest free loan, which he utilised to purchase
prime lands.
The post sparked off strong protest messages on the Facebook and
microblogging site, Twitter. Robert Vadra trended all through the day
and in fact occupied the second position in the top 10 trends on
Twitter. A Facebook page was set up to criticise Robert Vadra and to
highlight his alleged corruption. Within no time, the page received
about 1500 likes.
Kumar Vishwas of India Against Corruption joined the protest groups
and demanded that Vadra withdraw his comments and seek apology of the
people of India. As criticism mounted, Vadra deleted the Facebook
account, but not before creating another controversy that, people
lacked a sense of humour. "Obviously it seems I have people on my
Facebook account who do not have a sense of humour. Everything I write
becomes news and further debates on television? I have decided to
delete my account”
Reacting sharply to Vadra’s comments, Kejriwal said on Twitter,
“Evidence pouring in from mango men from across the country. Mango men
would prove to be nemesis for the 'powerful'."
The “Robert Vadra Corruption” page was full of messages criticizing
even the media for “ignoring” the corruption in the Gandhi family.
“Tatas took 100 years to become billionaire, Ambanis took 50 years
(after utilizing all resources), whereas Robert Vadra took less than
10 years to become the fastest multi-billionaire,” one of the posts on
the page alleged.
Way to go Arvindji! You are the beacon of light in this mess of corrupted politicians and bootlicking police officials who are more interested to catch people posting messages in facebook rather thatn scamsters and money launderers like Robert Vadra and Kursheeds.
