Hyderabad, May 27: The social media on Sunday played it cool even as
tension mounted up across the State following the arrest of Kadapa MP
and YSR Congress president YS Jaganmohan Reddy.
Surprisingly, Jagan was conspicuous by his absence on the top trends
in the microblogging site, Twitter. However, his late father, YS
Rajasekhar Reddy, trended at 9 for a couple of hours, on Twitter
India, Hyderabad and Chennai.
Only two days ago, Jagan trended top 5, receiving both bouquets and
brickbats. However, on Sunday evening, as the news of his arrest broke
out, there were not many netizens to support or oppose him. Perhaps,
the IPL final may have kept the netizens busy tweeting and exchanging
views on social media networks about the scores and predicting the
League’s winner.
While the tweets and Facebook exchanges about Jagan centered on his
allegedly “ill gotten” assets when he was first called by CBI for
questioning on Friday, the subject on Sunday revolved around YSR and
why the Congress kept mum when he was alive. Some netizens saw a
conspiracy linking the anti-corruption drive in Karnataka and Andhra
Pradesh, while others demanded that probe into the assets of all
politicians, who held public office.
“Corruption in Karnataka was not touched until YSR was CM. It was only
after his demise that “two birds” were sought to kill”, tweeted
@ssudhirkumar. Sadanand Dhume suggested that someone “needs to patent
process by which YSR clan went overnight from being paragons of
“inclusive growth” to symbols of cronyism”.
A post by Pallavi Ghosh said: “YSR was a mass leader also because of
the grip he had over his party in dissent was seldom tolerated”.
Bhaskar Chatterjee wondered, “Can any disproportionate asset case of
YSR be complete without questioning Ahmed Patel and Sonia? But CBI
would not touch them”. For Sunanda Vashist it was “funny” that all the
disproportionate assets of Jagan were perfectly proportionate when YSR
was rockstar of Sonia’s bunch of looters.
