Bhuvan, India's answer to the Google Earth, will now provide satellite data to the general public

Hyderabad: Bhuvan, India's answer to the Google Earth, will now
provide satellite data to the general public. People, who register
with the Bhuvan, can select, browse and download satellite data
through the city-based National Remote Sensing Centre's Open Earth
Observation Data Archive (Noeda).

The Indian Space Research Organisation has been running the Bhavan,
which has many more features than the Google Earth. Now ISRO has
thrown open some of the earth observation (EO) data obtained through
its Indian Remote Sensing (IRS).

The data can be downloaded based on various search options in the
Bhuvan website like bounding box, tiles (1degree x 1degree),
interactive drawing and Survey of India (SOI) mapsheet (1:250,000
scale) number.

Presently, users can download elevation data of CartoDEM-1arc second
and Resourcesat-1: AWiFS data (56m) of the Indian region with existing
Bhuvan log-in credentials. According to Isro, the facility will be
extended for other IRS satellite data coarser than 24m in near future.

An official statement from ISRO said, the satellite earth observation
data on Indian cities and terrain can be accessed from the link
provided at the Bhuvan home page www.bhuvan.nrsc.gov.in or directly
from http://bhuvan-noeda.nrsc.gov.in.

This new feature makes Bhavan even more user-friendly than its competitor.
