Bomb blastcase: Muslim youths not arrested on the actual charge of bomb blasts, say human rights groups

By Syed Akbar
Hyderabad, Oct 30: Human rights groups on Tuesday said none of the 26 Muslim youths now in jail was arrested on the actual charge of bomb blasts in the city.
"The youths, though picked up as suspects in the bomb blasts, have been charged with cases other than blasts. The police simply foisted vague but fearsome charges including waging war against the State and possessing Jihadi literature. The State government's defence is full of falsehood. Not a single person has been arrested in connection with the three blasts till now," human rights activists K Balagopal, Latif Muhammad Khan, D Suresh Kumar and V Narayana Reddy said.
They told reporters here that the youths taken into custody or arrested were either friends, neighbours and classmates of terror suspect Shahed alias Bilal or those who participated in the demonstration outside the DGP's office during the arrest of Moulana Naseeruddin in 2004. The police are also targeting those booked in an alleged conspiracy to kill a few BJP leaders including N Indrasena Reddy.
"Thus the investigation consists in rounding up old names, and neighbours and associates of Shahed and showing them as conspirators in offences of destabilising India,. without any corroborative or supportive material being recovered from them excepting audio-visual material which proves nothing except a certain ideological bent of mind. This is totally condemnable. And it is deceiving the public to pass it off as investigation of the three blasts," they said.
They also alleged that the police had obtained permission from court to conduct narco analysis tests on five of the suspects.
